Everyone’s life is multi-dimensional and consists of a wide range of interests, so it’s no wonder that research has consistently shown that healthy aging is about more than just your physical health. That’s why at South Port Square we take a holistic approach by incorporating 8 Dimensions of Wellness (Swarbrick & Yudof, 2017) from the Health & Wellness Navigation Program, an LCS Signature Experience, into our lifestyle.

Our 8 Dimensions include healthy habits like engaging in physical activity, socializing, your spiritual life, intellectual stimulation — including your mental health — emotional well-being, vocational and health services that harnesses your interests to improve skills and aspects of the world around you for a higher quality of life.

If you truly are only as old as you feel, the purpose of our 8 Dimensions of Wellness is to help you live an inspiring life of wonder where the number of candles on your cake doesn’t dictate what you can and can’t do.

Intellectual Wellness

Follow your interests: There’s always more to learn and experience. That’s why we offer a variety of opportunities to learn, grow, and keep your mind active including our arts and crafts studio, woodworking shop, lifelong learning, discussions, classes, outings and frequent on campus shows and concerts.

Physical Wellness

Get moving: Being physically active is a great way to reduce stress and improve sleep and balance. We offer a fully equipped fitness center with classes and wellness programs, including yoga, heated indoor pool and tennis and pickle ball courts.

Emotional Wellness

Inner peace: You’re never alone at South Port Square. We offer specific programs to help you remain happy, grounded and balanced.

Social Wellness

Be connected: According to the National Institute on Aging, socialization can help keep seniors from falling into a depression, the likelihood of which increases as people age. Studies have also shown that socialization among seniors can boost cognitive abilities and fight against Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. You can get connected through a wide range of activities we offer inviting places to gather, including a bistro and town square.

Spiritual Wellness

Keep the faith: Having an active spiritual life can lead to having a sense of purpose. It can also help reduce anxiety and hypertension. As a warm, welcoming community that accepts all faiths and spiritual practices, we enable you to follow your path.

Vocational Wellness

Stay engaged: You’ve acquired a wealth of knowledge through the decades. At South Port Square, you can pass on what you know or learn a new skill through community clubs and volunteer opportunities.

Environmental Wellness

Think outside: Being around nature has been shown to help people relax and boost feelings of happiness. We offer a variety of outdoor courtyards, gardens and walking paths where you can enjoy hearing the wind in the leaves and feel the sun on your face.

Health Services

Prevention and care: We offer a variety of health resources and health-related events at convenient times in our wellness center and therapy room.
